We're doing well between us.

Half way through Nanowrimo and between us Julie and I have just about completed sixty thousand words. She's done a few more than me, but hey we're going great guns.

I was thinking though what has this taught me?

Perhaps the most important thing is that I can keep my bum on the seat long enough to write and that time I've made to write I'm really enjoying. It's also taught me that when you're up against such a deadline there's no time for writers' block. I have my allocated time and I write. And also if it wasn't for Nanowrimo there is no way I'd have completed nearly 30,000 words in sixteen days.

Is it worth doing? I think so even if just to prove to me that once I make my mind up to write, I can.

And Julie, well done and thanks for being my writing buddy. Best of luck pal and loads of love.

  1. Hi, Sue!

Isn't it such fun, this NaNo lark! I'm loving every minute of it. And you're right - we have proved to ourselves that when we have such a ruddy rediculous deadline and target as 50,000 words in 30 days to write, we can stick our bums to the chair and get on with it.

I'm learning loads as I go along too: pacing, dialogue, chapter length, characters, My God! I've written a load of rubbish but it's my rubbish and I'm proud of it.

Come on NaNo buddy - let's get the ruddy things finished and be done with it! Whose idea was it to do NaNo this year?

See you on Saturday! Hey, we should do a workshop between us at some point for the rest of the WW - they might find our experiences interesting (or not).

  2. 50,000 words per month, that's 600,000 words per year - that's practically Barbara Cartland output! Go for it!

(Says Simon - still signed in as Wrekin Writers apparently, although I thought I had signed out!)

  3. It is good fun isn't Julie and like you I'm loving every minute of it. I'm timing it better this time so I can enjoy it more than before.

Like you I'm writing a load of rubbish but I love the way you say it's my rubbish - absolutely and only we can write such rubbish. But remember December you've got to start editing it. Just thought I'd throw that it lol.

Good to have you alongside and yep, we'll get this ruddy thing finished and on the 30th when we upload our 50,000 + words we'll have immense satisfaction of knowing we did.

I love the idea of a workshop, it would be fun to sit there and be questioned about it as long as they don't cart us off and lock us up for good or if they do they can make sure it's a fabulous place where we can write without interruptions for ever.

Enjoy sweetheart and see you on Saturday xx

  4. I like where you're coming from Simon. You can just see the two of us lying on a chaise longue with pink boas on and a glass of champagne in our hands while several hard working secretaries take down our every words.

    Sounds wonderful ;-)

  5. I don't think the rest of WW will cart us off - they're all crazy too! Takes one to know one! Let's see how many WW we can spread the NaNo madness around next year.

If we are to have chaise longues and pink boas can I have a chihuahua (yes I did have to look how to spell it up in the dictionary) too?

    See you Saturday!

    Julie xx

And yes you can have a chihuahua- image is all important when you write 600,000 words a year. Oh Barbara Cartland got them published - no problem ;-)
